Established in December 2005, the Office focuses on harmonising policy<br />
issues that affect children in areas such as early childhood care and education,<br />
youth justice, child welfare and protection, children and young people’s<br />
participation, research on children and young people, and cross-cutting<br />
initiatives for children. The Office is an integral part <strong>of</strong> the Department<br />
<strong>of</strong> Health and Children. Staff working in the areas <strong>of</strong> youth justice in the<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Justice, Equality and Law Reform and <strong>of</strong> education for early<br />
years in the Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Science, are co-located in the<br />
Office <strong>of</strong> the Minister for Children to provide a joined-up government<br />
approach to the development <strong>of</strong> policy and delivery <strong>of</strong> services for children.<br />
The website childrensdatabase.ie, created by the Office, provides access<br />
to research and information on children for policy-makers, government<br />
departments, academics, voluntary organisations and the general public.<br />

Established in 2007 as a response to the scale <strong>of</strong> migration to Ireland in<br />
recent years. The Minister for Integration is accredited to three departments<br />
– Justice, Equality and Law Reform; Education and Science; and Community,<br />
Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. The Office is responsible for developing<br />
integration policy and has a cross-cutting role with other departments in<br />
this regard. The <strong>of</strong>fice is also responsible for the resettlement <strong>of</strong> refugees<br />
admitted to Ireland as part <strong>of</strong> the United Nations Programme for the<br />
Resettlement <strong>of</strong> Refugees, as well the management <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> funds,<br />
including funding received from the European Commission for projects<br />
designed to assist in the integration <strong>of</strong> third country nationals.<br />
