Provides a programme <strong>of</strong> therapeutic recreation for children with cancer and<br />

other serious illnesses. The children, aged 7 to 17, come from Ireland and 22<br />

other European countries to take part in activities such as horse riding, canoeing,<br />

archery and drama. Through their achievements, they stop seeing themselves as<br />

‘sick kids’ and begin to regain self-confidence, independence and self-esteem. The<br />

programme is recognised by medical specialists as playing a valuable role in a<br />

child’s recovery from serious illness. Barretstown has served over 13,000 children<br />

and everything including medical care and airfare is provided free <strong>of</strong> charge.<br />

Provides counselling for bereaved persons on a one-to-one basis at five<br />

Dublin locations and also in Kildare, Carlow, Newbridge and Bray. Grieving<br />

children are also facilitated. Promotes increased knowledge and awareness <strong>of</strong><br />

the grieving process by giving talks to community organisations, businesses<br />

and schools. Provides a long-established bereavement service.<br />
