<strong>Voluntary</strong> organisation providing emergency humanitarian relief to those<br />

affected by war or natural disaster. In Ireland, it provides emergency services<br />

through its first aid and mountain rescue teams, and runs first aid courses<br />

for individuals, groups and employers. Involved in a variety <strong>of</strong> community<br />

services including home nursing and therapeutic hand care for sick and<br />

older persons. Abroad, it has a reputation for the skill and commitment <strong>of</strong><br />

delegates sent to work in disaster zones around the world. At all times, it<br />

works to ensure regard is held for international humanitarian law through<br />

the Geneva Conventions. Enables people to trace family members and send<br />

messages to relatives during times <strong>of</strong> war or other disasters.<br />

International Federation Red Cross/Red Crescent and the International<br />

Committee <strong>of</strong> the Red Cross.<br />

Independent non-governmental organisation working in Ireland with asylum<br />

seekers and refugees. Aims to ensure that all aspects <strong>of</strong> Ireland’s asylum<br />

and refugee policy and practice (legal, social, economic and cultural) fully<br />

respect international law and the human rights <strong>of</strong> asylum seekers and<br />

refugees. Its work includes policy, research, legal services, public awareness,<br />

education, networking and information components. Ennis branch <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

deals with the broad range <strong>of</strong> issues affecting the local refugee community.<br />
