<strong>City</strong> Center TIF District<br />

FY 2011 Annual Report<br />

prioritize improvements needed to support retail recruitment efforts in the<br />

Downtown area. Both documents were completed and approved during FY<br />

2011.<br />

• Encourage redevelopment <strong>of</strong> school property and improve educational and<br />

training facilities within the district.<br />

Plans to open the University <strong>of</strong> North Texas (UNT) law school at the Old<br />

Municipal Building continue. UNT relocated its administrative <strong>of</strong>fices to the<br />

Universities Center at <strong>Dallas</strong> building and has purchased the Titche-Goettinger<br />

Building located at 1900 Elm Street.<br />

• Complement and protect existing historic structures.<br />

Through the efforts <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> Center TIF District and the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dallas</strong> Historic<br />

Preservation Program, the following historic buildings within the TIF District have<br />

been improved – Kirby Building, Wilson Building, Magnolia Building, Davis<br />

Building, Stone Street Gardens, Gulf States Building, <strong>Dallas</strong> Power & Light<br />

Buildings, Thompson Building, 1608 Main Street, Hart Furniture Building, 1530<br />

Main Street, Republic Tower, the Interurban Building, and Mosaic (Fidelity Union<br />

Life Buildings). The Main Street National Register Historic District nomination<br />

was completed and accepted by the National Park Service. The city supported<br />

the expansion <strong>of</strong> the District to include buildings on the southern side <strong>of</strong><br />

Downtown. The new expanded Downtown National Register Historic District is<br />

currently pending and has not <strong>of</strong>ficially been accepted by the National Park<br />

Service.<br />

The <strong>City</strong> Center TIF District development program includes:<br />

• 2,500 residential units<br />

To date 2,336 residential units have been built in the <strong>City</strong> Center TIF District,<br />

representing approximately 93% <strong>of</strong> the development program goal. Below is a<br />

chart showing residential projects completed within the <strong>City</strong> Center TIF District:<br />
