GENERAL INFORMATION/FIR/UIR<br />

COVERAGE - This entry includes Greenland. Air Traffic<br />

Control, flight information and alerting services in the<br />

Sondrestrom FIR N of N63°30’ above FL195 are provided by<br />

Reykjavik CTA, S of N63°30’ above FL195 are provided by Gander<br />

Oceanic CTA. Below FL195, flight information and alerting services<br />

only are provided by Sondrestrom Flight Information Center<br />

except within the below listed zones/areas where all traffic<br />

services are provided by <strong>US</strong>AF.<br />

1. Greenland has implemented the ICAO Annex 11 airspace<br />

classifications. For complete airspace descriptions see General<br />

Planning.<br />

2. Sondrestrom (BGSF) Control Zone (surface to 3500’ MSL<br />

within 10 NM radius of airport). Thule (BGTL) Control Zone<br />

VISUAL FLIGHT RULES<br />

Standard, except in Class F/G Airspace:<br />

1. At or below 3000’ MSL or 1000’ above terrain, whichever is<br />

higher, aircraft may operate in flight visibility not less than 1.6<br />

NM, clear of clouds and in sight of the surface, if the speed is 140<br />

knots indicated airspeed or less.<br />

2. Aircraft established in the airport traffic pattern may operate<br />

with a flight visibility of not less than 0.8 NM, clear of clouds, and<br />

in sight of the airport.<br />

3. Helicopters may operate in flight visibility of not less than<br />

0.4 NM, if maneuvered at a speed that will give adequate<br />

opportunity to observe other traffic or any obstacle in time to<br />

avoid collision.<br />

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES<br />

FM IMMUNITY -<br />

1. GENERAL - Aircraft equipped with Non-FM interference<br />

immune VHF COM and ILS/VOR receivers under IFR/VFR NAT,<br />

may until 1 January 2007, operated within Sondrestrom FIR.<br />

2. OPERATION OF NON-FM IMMUNE STATE AIRCRAFT VHF<br />

COMM RECEIVERS.<br />

a. <strong>The</strong> compliance date is postponed until new equipment,<br />

meeting the operational requirements for 8.33kHz channel<br />

spacing, is installed.<br />

3. VHF VOR/LLZ RECEIVERS IFR OPERATIONS IN<br />

GREENL<strong>AND</strong>.<br />

a. State aircraft with non-FM interference immune VOR<br />

equipment may operate IFR enroute within Sondrestrom FIR<br />

provided that:<br />

(1) Equipment is properly identified to the crew as<br />

“non-FM immune.”<br />

(2) Aircraft is equipped with TACAN.<br />

(3) Aircraft is equipped and certified to meet RNP-5<br />

without use of VOR, ref ICAO SUPPS-Doc7030/EUR/RAC.<br />

(4) Planned flight will not require use on non-compliant<br />

VOR equipment for enroute flight to destination or alternate<br />

aerodromes.<br />

b. For TMA operations, state aircraft with non-FM immune<br />

VOR/ILS shall restrict operations in TMAs within Sondrestrom FIR<br />

to VMC, or to aerodromes with approved and published<br />

procedures for NDB, PAR, ASR, or TACAN approach.<br />
