FLIGHT HAZARDS<br />

1. Asuncion Terminal Control Area is a high density traffic area,<br />
in addition to commercial traffic and numerous private aircraft,<br />
Paraguayan Air Force (PAF) conducts fighter type aircraft<br />
operations from Silvio Pettirossi Intl (SGAS) including jet student<br />
training and formation flights.<br />
2. PAF conducts training flights, light aircraft operations, and<br />
parachute training, including troop drops, from a grass airstrip at<br />
Nu Guazu which is located approximately 1 NM S of Silvio<br />
Pettirossi Intl (SGAS) and just to the W of runway centerline.<br />
3. Student jet training and conventional training is conducted<br />
in all sectors of Paraguayan airspace within 75 NM of Asuncion.<br />

4. Bands of vultures are observed daily in the vicinity of Silvio<br />
Pettirossi Intl (SGAS). In the spring and at the end of summer<br />
different types of birds cross the airport area from E to W close<br />
to sunset.<br />

RVSM RULES - Standard SAM RVSM, except for UL302<br />
between IREMI - ILMAR (RNP10 Airspace), UL780 between<br />
SORTA - MOXES (RNP10 Airspace), UL401 between ESDIN -<br />
KARAZ, UL312 between OSAKI - SLS, UL344 between AMERO -<br />
SLS, UL308 between ANPAL - SLS. Strategic Lateral Offset<br />
Procedures are authorized while operating in the above listed ATS<br />
routes.<br />

FLIGHT PLANNING<br />
1. On 31 July and 3 August 1994 Peruvian Air Traffic Control<br />
(Lima) denied clearance to a military flight and contract carrier<br />
with planned routing outside <strong>US</strong> recognized 12 NM limit, but<br />
inside Peruvian claimed 200 NM limit. Aircrews in similar<br />
situations should immediately contact the FMF (Call sign<br />
SMASHER) through GLOBAL <strong>US</strong>ER SYSTEM via phone patch to<br />
DSN 282-8742 / 8743.<br />

2. UL401 beginning at ESDIN CRP (S18°21’ W80°12’), heading<br />
150°, 556 NM to ILVOS CRP (S10°00’ W84°25’), heading 150°,<br />
437 NM to KARAZ CRP (S03°24’ W87°37’).<br />
ROUTE <strong>AND</strong> AREA RESTRICTIONS -<br />
1. All aircraft flying between coordinates S10°10’ W74°05’,<br />
S10°10’ W73°00’ and S12°00’ W74°05’, from 1200-2200Z, from<br />
ground to 5000’, will call Sepahua (SPSE) Tower on 125.2 MHz.<br />

2. Due to volcanic activities within Saboncaya volcano zone,<br />
aircraft on Air Traffic Service Routes W25/W26 take precautions.<br />
Fumes are stationary, area is covered with clouds of smoke and<br />
ash between reporting points ATIPA, VUGAL and NEVDO, from<br />
surface to FL300.<br />
