If the coil isreplaced, it must be replaced with the same type.1. RemovalThe ignition coil is mounted to a bracket on side ofengine (to rear of distributor) (Figure 2-92).a. Disconnect ignition coil secondary cable fromignition coil.b. Disconnect engine harness connector fromignition coil.c.Remove ignition coil mounting bolts (nuts areused on back side of bracket on some coils).d. Remove coil from vehicle.2. Installationa. Install ignition coil to bracket on cylinder blockwith mounting bolts (and nuts if equipped). Ifequipped with nuts and bolts, tighten to 11 Nom(100 in-lbs) torque. If equipped with bolts only,tighten to S Nom (50 in-lbs) torque.b.c.Connect engine harness connector to coil.Connect ignition coil cable to ignition coil.SPARK PLUGSFigure 2 - 92Spark Plug and Ignition Wire RemovalRemove the ignition wire by grasping it at the spark plugboot, and then turn (1/2 turn) and pull it straight back in onesteady motion.Prior to removing the spark plug, spray compressed airaround the spark plug hole and the area around thespark plug.Remove the spark plug using a quality socket with arubber or foam insert.Inspect the spark plug.
