4.2L IN-LINE 6 (CRANKSHAFT) 2915. Remove the timing case cover. Refer to the TimingCase Cover Removal, in this section, for the procedure.6.7.8.9.Remove the oil seal from the timing case cover.Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and washer.Rotate the crankshaft until the zero timing mark on thecrankshaft sprocket is closest to and on the centerline withthe timing mark on the camshaft sprocket (Figure 5-1).Remove the crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocketand timing chain as an assembly. Disassemble thechain and sprockets.InstallationAssemble the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket andcamshaft sprocket with the timing marks aligned.CAMSHAFTSPROCKETTIMINGMARKS1.With the key in the keyway on the crankshaft, installthe assembly on the crankshaft and camshaft.Figure 5 - 12.3.Install the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and washerand tighten to 108 Nom (80 ft-lbs) torque.To verify the correct installation of the timing chain,turn the crankshaft to locate the camshaft sprockettiming mark at approximately the one o’clock position.This positions the crankshaft sprocket timing markwhere the adjacent tooth meshes with the chain at thethree o’clock position. Count the number of chain pinsbetween the timing marks on both sprockets (Figure 5-2). There must be 15 pins.15 PIYS4.Install the crankshaft oil slinger.5.Install the timing case cover and replacement oil seal.Refer to Timing Case Cover Installation, in thissection, for the procedure.-J9009-716.With the key in the keyway on the crankshaft, installthe vibration damper, washer and bolt. Lubricate andtighten the bolt to 108 Nom (80 ft-lbs) torque.Figure 5 - 27.Install the damper pulley (if removed). Tighten thebolts to 27 Nom (20 ft-lbs) torque.8.Install the engine fan and hub (or Tempatrol fan)assembly.9.Install the drive belt(s) and tighten to the specifiedtension. Refer to the service manual for the properprocedure.
