106 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTS9. Install seal into timing chain cover by gently tappingwith rubber or plastic mallet.10. Remove the timing case cover alignment and sealinstallation tool.11. Apply a light film of engine oil on the vibrationdamper hub contact surface of the seal.12. With the key inserted in the keyway on the crankshaft,install the vibration damper, washer and bolt.13. Lubricate and tighten the bolt with 108 Nom (80 ft-lbs)torque.Note: If the crankshaft turns before the damper bolttightening torque value is attained, the crankshaft canbe prevented from turning by placing two 5/16 x 1-1/2”bolts into the damper pulley holes and wedging a barbetween them. Rotate the bar until it contacts the framemember to prevent the crankshaft from turning.14. Install the damper pulley. Tighten the bolts with 27Nom (20 ft-lbs) torque.15. Install the drive belt(s) and tighten to the specified tension.REAR MAIN BEARING OIL SEALThe crankshaft rear main bearing oil seal is a one piece,single-lip seal that fits tightly between the cylinder blockand the crankshaft.Note: When replacing the rear main bearing oil seal, thetransmission must be removed. Refer to your servicemanual for installation procedures.Removal1.2.Remove the flywheel or torque converter drive plate.Remove the seal from the crankshaft flange by pryingaround the crankshaft flange.Installation1. Coat the inner lip of the replacement rear main bearingseal with engine oil.2.3.4.Carefully insert the seal into place and gently tap itflush with the cylinder block with a rubber orplastic mallet.Install the torque converter drive plate or flywheel withreplacement bolts. Refer to the service manual forremoval and installation procedures.Install the transmission. Refer to the service manual forthe procedure.VIBRATION DAMPERRemoval1. Remove the drive belt(s).2. Remove the retaining bolts and separate the vibrationdamper pulley from the vibration damper.3. Remove the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer.4. Use vibration damper removal tool to remove thedamper from the crankshaft (Figure 2-2).Installation1. With the key in position, align the key slot in thevibration damper hub with the crankshaft key and tapthe damper onto the end of the crankshaft.2. Install the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer.Tighten the bolt with 108 Nom (80 ft-lbs) torque.3.Note: If the crankshaft turns before the damper bolttightening torque value is attained, the crankshaft canbe prevented from turning by placing two 5/16 x 1-112”bolts into the damper pulley holes and wedging a barbetween them. Rotate the bar until it contacts the framemember to prevent the crankshaft from turning.Install the damper pulley and retaining bolts. Tightenthe bolts with 27 Nom (20 ft-lbs) torque.4. Install the drive belt(s) and tighten to the specified tension.TIMING CASE COVERRemoval1.2.3.4.5.6.Remove the drive belt(s), engine fan and hub assembly,fan shroud, vibration damper, pulley, and key.Remove the oil pan-to-timing case cover screws andcover-to-cylinder block bolts.Remove the timing case cover, crankshaft oil seal, andgasket from the cylinder block.Cut off the oil pan side gasket end tabs flush with the frontface of the cylinder block and remove the gasket tabs.Clean the timing case cover, oil pan, and cylinder blockgasket surfaces.Pry the crankshaft oil seal from the timing case coverwith a large pry tool.Installation1. Apply sealing compound (Perfect Seal, or equivalent)to both sides of the replacement timing case covergasket and position the gasket on the cylinder block.
