Preferred Methoda. Place a strip of Plastigauge across the full width ofeach gear (Figure 2-79).b.Install the pump cover and tighten the bolts to 8Nom (70 in-lbs) torque.c. Remove the pump cover and determine theamount of clearance by measuring the width ofcompressed Plastigauge with scale on thePlastigauge envelope.Correct clearance by this method is 0.05 1-0.152 mmwith 0.051 mm preferred (0.002-0.006" with 0.002"preferred).
