120 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSOIL PANRemoval1.2. Drain the engine oil.3. Remove the starter motor.4.5.6.7.Raise and support the vehicle at the side sills.Remove the flywheel housing access cover.Remove the oil pan screws.Remove the oil pan by sliding it to the rear.OilingClean the gasket and seal surfaces. Remove all sludgeand grime from the oil pan sump.Installation1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.Install a replacement oil pan front seal on the timingcase cover and apply a generous amount of RTVsealant (Mopar Gasket-in-a-Tube, or equivalent) to therecesses in the tab ends.Note: Either one of two sealing methods may be used.An RTV sealant such as Mopar Gasket-in-a-Tube, orequivalent, may be used instead of a gasket. If a gasketis used, coat both sides with a quick drying adhesivesuch as Mopar Spray-a-Gasket, or equivalent.Coat the inside curved surface of the replacement oilpan rear seal with soap. Apply a generous amount ofRTV sealant to the gasket contacting surface of the sealend tabs.Install the seal in the recess of the rear main bearingcap. Ensure it is fully seated.Cement the replacement oil pan side gaskets intoposition on the cylinder block.Apply a generous amount of RTV sealant to the endtabs of the gaskets.Apply engine oil to the oil pan contacting surface ofthe front and rear oil pan seals.Install the oil pan. Tighten the screws and the drainplug securely.Note: Tighten the 1/4-20 oil pan screws with 9 Nom(7 ft-lbs) torque and tighten the 5/16-18 oil pan screwswith 15 Nom (1 I ft-lbs) torque.Install the starter motor.Install the flywheel housing access cover.10. Raise the vehicle.11. Remove all sill supports.System12. Lower the vehicle.Warning! Use extreme caution when the engine isoperating. DO NOT stand in a direct line with the fan. DONOT put hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. DO NOTwear loose clothing.13. Fill the oil pan with engine oil to the specified level.Start the engine and inspect for leaks.011. PUMPNote: A gear-type oil pump is located at the underside ofthe cylinder block opposite the No. 3 main bearing.RemovalNote: Oil pump removal and replacement will not affectdislxibutor ignition timing because the distributor drive gearremains in mesh with the camshaft gear.1. Drain the engine oil.2. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Removal, in thissection, for the procedure.Caution: DO NOT disturb the position of the oil inlet tubeand strainer assembly attached to the pump body. If the tubeis moved within the pump body, a replacement tube andstrainer assembly must be installed to assure an airtight seal.3. Remove the oil pump retaining screws, oil pumpand gasket.InstallationNote: To ensure self-priming of the oil pump, fill the pumpwith petroleum jelly before installing the oil pump cover.DO NOT use grease.1. Apply a bead of Loctite 5 1.5 sealant, or equivalent, andinstall the pump cover. Tighten the cover screws with8 Nom (70 in-lbs) torque.Note: Rotate the gears to ensure that a binding conditiondoes not exist before installing the oil pump.2. lnstall the oil pump with a replacement gasket. Tightenthe short screw with 14 Nom (10 ft-lbs) torque, and thelong screw with 23 N*m (17 ft-lbs) torque.3. Install the oil pan with replacement gaskets andseals. Refer to Oil Pan Installation, in this section,for the procedure.4. Fill the oil pan with replacement engine oil to thespecified level.I.l--1n
