~386 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSTIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS~~~~ ~ ~ ~Timing Chain and Sprockets SetThis kit is the ideal service replacement package for 360AMC V-8 engines. The package includes single rollertiming chain and sprockets.P4529820Timing chain and sprockets set.Timing Chain Wear Measurement1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.Remove the timing case cover.Rotate the camshaft or crankshaft sprocket until allslack is removed from the right side of the chain.Determine a reference point for the deflectionmeasurement (Figure 7-9). Measure up from the dowelon the right side of the engine 19 mm (3/4") and markthe location.Position a straightedge across the timing chain from thepoint at the lowest tooth (X) on the camshaft sprocketto the point marked (Z) previously (Figure 7-9).Grasp the chain where the straightedge dissects thechain and use it as a reference.Move the chain in toward the centerline of the engineand mark the engine block at the point of maximuminward chain deflection (D - Figure 7-9).Move the chain out from the centerline of the engineand mark the engine block at the point of maximumoutward chain deflection (E - Figure 7-9).Measure the distance between the two marks todetermine the total deflection (F - Figure 7-9).Replace the chain assembly if the deflection (wear)exceeds 22 mm (7/8").10 . Install the timing case cover.Removal1. Remove the vibration damper pulley, damper, timingcase cover and gasket.2.3.4.5.6.Remove the crankshaft oil slinger.Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and washer.Remove the distributor drive gear and fuel pump eccentric.Rotate the crankshaft until the zero timing mark on thecrankshaft sprocket is closest to and on centerline with thezero timing mark on the camshaft sprocket (Figure 7-10).Remove the crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocketand timing chain as an assembly.InstallationFigure 7 - 10Assemble the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket andcamshaft sprocket with the timing marks positioned on thesame centerline.1. Install the chain and sprocket assembly on thecrankshaft and camshaft.2.3.4.Install the fuel pump eccentric and the distributor drivegear. Install the fuel pump eccentric with the stampedword REAR facing the camshaft sprocket.Install the camshaft washer and retaining bolt. Tightenthe bolt to 41 Nom (30 ft-lbs) torque. To verify the correct installation of the timing chain:a. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing mark on thecamshaft sprocket is on a horizontal line at the 3o'clock position.IFigure 7 - 9- --I 1
