240 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSElectronic Ignition DistributorThis replacement electronic ignition distributor comescomplete with cap and rotor. For 1987-90,4.0L engineswith MPI only.P4529683I. Distributor CupElectronic ignition distributor.Remove the distributor cap and wipe it clean with adry, lint free cloth. Visually inspect the cap for cracks, carbon paths, broken towers, white deposits on theinside (caused by condensation entering the capthrough cracks), or damaged rotor button. Replace anycap that displays charred or eroded terminals. Themachined surface of a terminal end (faces towardrotor) will indicate some evidence of erosion fromnormal operation. Examine the terminal ends forevidence of mechanical interference with the rotor tip.If replacement of the distributor cap is necessary, transfer spark plug wires from the original cap to thenew cap one at a time. Ensure that each wire isinstalled into the tower of the new cap that correspondsto its tower position in the original cap. Fully seat thewires into the towers.2. Distributor RotorVisually inspect the rotor for cracks, evidence ofcorrosion and the effects of arcing on the metal tip, andevidence of mechanical interference with the cap. Some charring is normal on the end of the metal tip.The silicone dielectric compound applied to the rotortip for radio interference noise suppression will appearcharred. This is normal. (DO NOT remove the charredcompound.) Test the spring for insufficient tension.Replace a rotor that displays any of these adverseconditions. Coat the tip of a replacement rotor withMopar Performance Parts Silicone DielectricCompound or equivalent.Distributor Cap and Rotor SetReplacement cap and rotor set. For 4.0L engine only.P4529686Distributor cap and rotor set.Mopar Performance Parts Electronic IgnitionComponentsHigh Performance Electronic Control UnitsFor a hotter spark and more rpm capability, use one of MoparPerformance Parts' high performance ECUs. For generalhigh performance and usage up through 6,000 rpm, use theOrange Box ECU. For higher rpm output requirements upthrough 8,000, select the Chrome Box ECU.P4 I20505P4 120534Orange Box ECU.Chrome Box ECU.Super Gold Electronic Control UnitThe Super Gold Electronic Control Unit is the culminationof eight years of high performance ignition systemsdevelopment. Designed to out perform any ignition unitpreviously offered to Mopar racers, it will handle the highcurrent demand by the P3690560 (Accel) highperformance coil, while keeping dwell variation to lessthan 1" from 1,000 to 10,000 rpm. Dwell is set formaximum spark output at low and high engine speeds. The Super Gold ECU provides outstanding performancefrom idle to 12,000 rpm.P4 I 20600Super Gold ECU - race only.Ballast Resistor - Electronic DistributorP2,44464 1 Use with mechanical advance distributorusing P3690560 coil. 114 Ohm.P5206436lgnition coilsP4 120889P3690560-~~~ ~Use with electronic ignition systemsusing P4120505 Orange Box ECU andproduction coil, or with P4120889 coil.1 Ohm.Accel Super Coil for all 12-voltapplications. Not recommended forengine speeds over 6,500 rpm. (Use withballast resistor P5206436.)Accel Race Coil specifically designed tobe used with race electronic ignitionkits. Designed for racing applicationsonly. Not recommended for continuedoperation at speeds below 3,000 rpm formore than 30 minute periods.
