~ ~~T -- T -1360 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSFuel TankThe fuel tank is constructed of a plastic material. Its mainfunctions are for fuel storage and for placement of the fuelpump module. All models pass a full 360 degree rollover test without fuelleakage. To accomplish this, fuel and vapor flow controlsare required for all fuel tank connections.A rollover valve(s) is mounted into the top of the fuel tank(or pump module). Refer to the proper service manual forrollover valve information. An evaporation control system is connected to the rollovervalve(s) to reduce emission of fuel vapors to theatmosphere. When fuel evaporates from the fuel tank, vapors pass through vent hoses or tubes to a charcoalcanister where they are temporarily held. When the engineis running, the vapors are drawn into the intake manifold.Fuel Injector RailTOP (FUEL ENTRY)Figure 6 - 188Ob6M35Fuel Injectors(Refer to Figure 6-18.)The fuel injectors are electrical solenoids. The injectorcontains a pintle that closes off an orifice at the nozzle end. When electric current is supplied to the injector, thearmature and needle move a short distance against a spring, allowing fuel to flow out the orifice. Because the fuel isunder high pressure, a fine spray is developed in the shapeof a pencil stream. The spraying action atomizes the fuel, adding it to the air entering the combustion chamber. Aseparate fuel injector is used for each individual cylinder. The top (fuel entry) end of the injector is attached into anopening on the fuel rail. The nozzle (outlet) end of theinjector is positioned into an opening in the intake manifoldjust above the intake valve port of the cylinder head. Theengine wiring harness connector for each fuel injector isequipped with an attached numerical tag (INJ 1, INJ 2 etc.).This is used to identify each fuel injector. The injectors are electrically energized, individually and ina sequential order by the Powertrain Control Module(PCM). The PCM will adjust injector pulse width byswitching the ground path to each individual injector onand off. Injector pulse width js the period of time that theinjector is energized. The PCM will adjust injector pulsewidth based on various inputs it receives.During start up, battery voltage is supplied to the injectorsthrough the ASD relay. When the engine is operating, voltage is supplied by the charging system. The PCMdetermines injector pulse width based on various inputs. The metal fuel injector rail is used to mount the fuelinjectors to the engine. It is mounted to the intake manifold(Figure 6-19). The fuel rail is not repairable.High pressure fuel from the fuel pump is routed to the fuelrail. The fuel rail then supplies the necessary fuel to eachindividual fuel injector.A fiuel pressure test port is located on the fuel rail (Figure6-19). A quick-connect fitting with a safety latch is used toattach the fuel line to the fuel rail.Caution: The left and right sections of the fuel rail arejoined with a connector tube (Figure 6-19). DO NOTattempt to separate the rail halves at this tube. Due to thedesign of this connecting tube, it does not use any clamps.Never attempt to install a clamping device of any kind tothe tube. When removing the fuel rail assembly for anyreason, be careful not to bend or kink the connector tube.MOUNTINGQUICK-CONNECTLFigure 6 - 19
