Tighten thecapscrews to 26 Nmm (19 ft-lbs) torque.4.Seal and install the cylinder head cover.PUSHRODSRemoval1. Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to CylinderHead Cover Remnvul, ‘Cylinder Head’ section of thischapter for the procedure.2.3.4.5.Remove the two capscrews at each bridge. Alternatelyloosen the capscrews one turn at a time to avoiddamaging the bridge.Remove the bridge and pivot assemblies and placethem on the bench in the same order as removed.Remove the rocker arms and place them on the benchin the same order as removed.Remove the pushrods and place them on the bench inthe same order as removed.Cleaning and InspectionClean all the parts with cleaning solvent. Use compressed airto clean out the oil passages in the rocker arms and pushrods.Inspect the pivot contact surface of each rocker arm andpushrod. Replace any parts that are scuffed, pitted orexcessively worn. Inspect the valve stem contact surface ofeach rocker arm and replace the rocker arm if deeply pitted.Inspect each pushrod end for scuffing or excessive wear. Ifany pushrod is excessively worn from lack of oil, replacethe pushrod as well as the corresponding hydraulic valvetappet and rocker arm.It is not normal for a wear pattern to exist along the lengthof the pushrod. Inspect the cylinder head for obstruction ifthis condition exists.Length, strength and weight are the most critical items forpushrods, especially the first two. Length affects thegeometry and the valve gear oiling. Strength keeps thedeflections minimized and weight helps the engine speed, but a weight loss that causes a strength loss will result in aperformance loss. The valve train of the 360 AMC V-8 is oiled through thepushrods. Jeep engine pushrods (all Jeep engines) arehollow so that oil can pass through them to oil the valvetrain.Caution: Because the 360 AMC V-8 valve train is oiledthrough hollow pushrods, SOLID SHAFT PUSHRODSCANNOT BE USED.Pushrod SetThi.s Mopar Performance Parts pushrod set is of the samehigh quality as production pushrods. They are hollow toproqide valve train oiling (same as production pushrods).Cornes complete with sixteen (1 6) pushrods.
