21 4 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSINTRODUCTIONCooling SystemThe cooling system (Figure 4-40 and Figure 4-41) regulatesengine operating temperature. It allows the engine to reachnormal operating temperature as quickly as possible. It alsomaintains normal operating temperature and preventsoverheating. The cooling system also provides a means of heating thepassenger compartment and cooling the automatictransmission fluid (if equipped). The cooling system ispressurized and uses a centrifugal water pump to circulatecoolant throughout the system. The cooling system consists ofIRadiatorMechanical cooling fanFan shroudRadiator pressure capThermostatCoolant reserve/overflow systemTransmission oil cooler (if auto. trans. equipped)CoolantWater pumpHoses and hose clampsAccessory drive beltFANSHROUDFigure 4 - 41Cooling System CapacityCaution: Vehicle may be equipped with long life coolant.Extended life coolant is identified by an orange color.Normal coolant is identified by a greenish color. DO NOTmix the two types of coolant. Refer to your service manualfor coolant recommendations.4.01, 12.3 liters (13.0 quarts)"* Includes 2.2 liters (2.3 quarts) for coolant recovery bottle.Coolant Reservoir/Overflow SystemThis system works along with the radiator pressure cap. This is done by using thermal expansion and contraction ofthe coolant to keep the coolant free of trapped air. Itprovides :A volume for coolant expansion and contraction.A convenient and safe method for checking/adjustingcoolant level at atmospheric pressure. This is donewithout removing the radiator pressure cap. Some reserve coolant to the radiator to cover minorleaks and evaporation or boiling losses. As the engine cools, a vacuum is formed in the coolingsystem of both the radiator and engine. Coolant will then bedrawn from the coolant tank and returned to a proper levelin the radiator. The coolant reservoir/overflow system has a radiatormounted pressurized cap, an overflow tube and a plasticcoolant reservoir/overflow tank mounted to the right innerfender (typical)...
