It allows the engine to reachnormal operating temperature as quickly as possible. It alsomaintains normal operating temperature and preventsoverheating.The cooling system also provides a means of heating thepassenger compartment and cooling the automatictransmission fluid (if equipped). Itprovides :A volume for coolant expansion and contraction.A convenient and safe method for checking/adjustingcoolant level at atmospheric pressure. This is donewithout removing the radiator pressure cap.Some reserve coolant to the radiator to cover minorleaks and evaporation or boiling losses.As the engine cools, a vacuum is formed in the coolingsystem of both the radiator and engine.
