4.2L IN-LINE 6 (CYLINDER HEAD) 3017. Remove all the necessary vacuum and air hoses toprovide clearance for the cylinder head coverremovalhnstallation. Identify and tag the hoses forinstallation reference.8.9.Remove the cylinder head cover retaining bolts.Detach the cover from the cylinder head by breakingthe silicone rubber seal with a putty knife or razorblade. DO NOT attempt to pry the cover up until theseal has been completely broken.10. Rotate the cylinder head cover toward the passengerside and remove the cover.Inspection and CleaningReplace the cover if it is cracked or damaged in any way. Ifthe pre-cured RTV seal is damaged, replace the cover.If a replacement cover is installed, transfer the PCV valvegrommet and oil filler cap from the original cover to thereplacement cover.Remove any original sealer from the cover sealing surfaceof the cylinder head and clean the surface using a fabriccleaner. Remove all residue from the sealing surface usinga clean, dry cloth.InstallationCYLINDER H'EADCOVER1.2.3.4.5.6.7.Install and tighten the cylinder head cover bolts to 8Nem (70 in-lbs) torque.Connect the fuel pipe and the distributor vacuumadvance hose.Reposition and/or connect all the air and vacuum hosesthat were moved for cover removal clearance.Connect the PCV valve and the PCV shutoff valvehose.Install the air cleaner hoses.Connect the battery negative cable.Check the engine oil and add oil, if necessary.Figure 5 - 6
