31 0 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSOIL PANRemoval1.2.3. Drain the engine oil.4. Remove the starter motor.5.6.7.8.Disconnect the battery negative cable.Raise and support the vehicle at the side sills.Remove the flywheel/torque converter housing accesscover.It may be necessary to raise the engine in order toremove the oil pan.Remove the oil pan bolts.Remove the oil pan by sliding it to the rear.CleaningClean the gasket and seal surfaces.Remove all sludge and residue from the oil pan sump.9. Lower and secure the engine if it was raised.10. Install the flywheel/torque converter housing accesscover.11. Install the starter motor.12. Raise the vehicle to remove the jackstands. Lower thevehicle.13, Connect the battery negative cable.Warning! Use extreme caution when the engine isoperating. DO NOT stand in a direct line with the fan. DONOT put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. DO NOTwear loose clothing.14. Fill the oil pan with clean engine oil to the specifiedlevel. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.-OIL PAN-TO-BEARING OIL PAN OLL PANCAP SEAL GASKET SET TIMINGCASE COVERSEALInstallation(Refer to Figure 5-7.)1. Install a replacement oil pan front seal on the timing casecover and apply a generous amount of Mopar Gasket-ina-Tube(or equivalent) to the recesses in the tab ends.2. Cement the replacement oil pan side gaskets intoposition on the cylinder block.3. Apply a generous amount of Mopar Gasket-in-a-Tube(or equivalent) to the end tabs of the gaskets.4. Coat the inside curved surface of the replacement oilpan rear seal with soap.5. Apply a generous amount of sealant such as MoparGasket-in-a-Tube (or equivalent) to the gasketcontacting surface of the seal end tabs.6. Install the seal in the recess of the rear main bearingcap. Ensure that it is fully seated. Either one of twosealing methods may be used.7.8.a. A sealant such as Mopar Gasket-in-a-Tube (orequivalent) may be used instead of a gasket.b. If a gasket is used, coat both sides with a quickdrying adhesive such as Mopar Gasket Compound(or equivalent).Apply engine oil to the oil pan contacting surface ofthe front and rear oil pan seals.Install the oil pan. Tighten the 1/4-20 oil pan bolts to 9N*m (80 in-lbs) torque and tighten the 5/16-18 oil panbolts to 15 N*m (11 ft-lbs) torque. Tighten the drainplug securely.-OIL PANOIL PUMPFigure 5 - 7JEW-165A positive displacement, gear-type oil pump is used and isdriven by the distributor shaft, which in turn is driven by agear on the camshaft. The pump incorporates a pressurerelief valve to regulate maximum pressure. Crankcase oilenters the pump through a pick up tube and screenassembly which is press fit into the pump body.Oil pump removal or replacement will not affect distributortiming as the distributor drive gear remains in mesh withthe camshaft gear.Rerrtoval1. Drain the engine oil.2. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Removal, in thissection, for the procedure...
