Sinele P45292 16, P4529217 24 PiecesVALVE TIMING1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove thespark plugs.Remove the engine cylinder head cover.Remove the capscrews, bridge and pivot assembly, androcker arms from above the No. 1 cylinder.Alternately loosen each capscrew, one turn at a time, toavoid damaging the bridge.Rotate the crankshaft until the No. 4 piston is at topdead center (TDC) on the compression stroke.Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise (viewed fromthe front of the engine) 90".Install a dial indicator on the end of the No. 1 cylinderintake valve pushrod. Use rubber tubing to secure theindicator stem on the pushrod.Set the dial indicator pointer at zero.Rotate the crankshaft clockwise (viewed from the frontof the engine) until the dial indicator pointer indicates0.305 mm (0.012") travel distance (lift).The timing notch index on the vibration damper should bealigned with the TDC mark on the timing degree scale.If the timing notch is more than 13 mm (1/2") awayfrom the TDC mark in either direction, the valvetiming is incorrect.If the valve timing is incorrect, the cause may be abroken camshaft pin. It is not necessary to replace thecamshaft because of pin failure. When the valve stem guideclearance is excessive, the valve guide bores must bereamed oversize. Service valves with oversize stems areavailable in 0.076 mm (0.003") and 0.381 mm (0.015")increments. Corresponding oversize valve stem seals arealso available and must be used with valves having 0.381mm (0.0 15") oversize stems.Note: If the valve guides are reamed oversize, the valveseats must be reground afterwards to ensure that the valveseat is concentric to the valve guide.Valve stem seals are installed over each valve stem andvalve guide boss preventing oil from entering thecombustion chamber through the valve guides. There areseparate seals for intake and exhaust valve stems. Sealsmarked INT are for intake valve stems, seals marked EXHare for exhaust valve stems. Replace valve stem seals whenservice is performed or if the seals have deteriorated.
