158 MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTSPISTON AND CONNECTING ROD ASSEMBLYRemoval1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to CylinderHead Cover Removal, ‘Cylinder Head’ section of thischapter for the procedure.Remove the capscrews, bridge and pivot assembliesand rocker arms. Alternately loosen the capscrews, oneturn at a time, to avoid damaging the bridge. Retainthem in the same order and position as removed tofacilitate installation in their original locations.Remove the pushrods. Retain them in the same orderand position as removed to facilitate installation intheir original locations.Remove the cylinder head and gasket. Refer toCylinder Head Removal, ‘Cylinder Head’ section ofthis chapter for the procedure.Position the pistons one at a time near the bottom of thestroke and use a ridge reamer to remove the ridge fromthe top end of the cylinder walls. Use a protective clothto collect the cuttings.Drain the engine oil.Remove the oil pan, gasket and seals. Refer to theproper service manual for the procedure.If equipped, remove the main bearing cap brace(Figure 4-6).Remove the connecting rod bearing caps and inserts.Retain them in the same order as removed to facilitateinstallation in their original location. The connectingrods and caps are stamped with a correspondingnumber or letter combination.Caution: Ensure that the connecting rod bolts DONOT scratch the crankshaft journals or cylinder walls.Short pieces of rubber hose, slipped over the connectingrod bolts, will provide protection during removal.10. Remove the connecting rod and piston assembliesthrough the top of the cylinder bores (Figure 4-12).Figure 4 - 12J8909-166
