However,potential member states have to invest much larger efforts, taking into account theprevious insufficient investments into environmental protection sector. On the otherh<strong>and</strong>, they still have the examples <strong>of</strong> positive <strong>and</strong> negative experiences <strong>of</strong> countries thathave already travelled along that road.The benefits from implementation <strong>of</strong> the EU requirements that are visible in the firstiteration include:Improvement <strong>of</strong> health status <strong>of</strong> population, reduced environmental pollution(the reduction <strong>of</strong> respiratory diseases <strong>and</strong> fatalities, in particular among infantsoccur as the results);Reduced damage to forests, built structures, agricultural surfaces, fish fund asthe result <strong>of</strong> reduced acid rains <strong>and</strong> other forms <strong>of</strong> pollution. This leads to awider economic benefit (increased pr<strong>of</strong>it) <strong>and</strong> reduction <strong>of</strong> maintenance costs(works on maintenance-building <strong>of</strong> facades);Reduction <strong>of</strong> the risk <strong>of</strong> deteriorating <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> natural resources (groundwaters);Better protection <strong>of</strong> natural eco-systems, endangered species;Promotion <strong>of</strong> tourism as the result <strong>of</strong> the clean environment (forests, water forbathing, natural resorts);Reduction <strong>of</strong> the risk <strong>of</strong> transmission <strong>of</strong> diseases caused by dirty waters <strong>and</strong>improvement <strong>of</strong> water taste as the result <strong>of</strong> requirements for better drinkingwater <strong>and</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> water for bathing;Increase <strong>of</strong> economic efficiency <strong>and</strong> productivity as the result <strong>of</strong>implementation <strong>of</strong> updated technology, which increases competitiveness <strong>of</strong>industry;Lower production <strong>and</strong> maintenance price through clean water availability.reduction <strong>of</strong> the need for pre-treatment <strong>of</strong> the supplied water;Lower consumption <strong>of</strong> primary raw materials as the result <strong>of</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong>an efficient system <strong>of</strong> a renewed use <strong>and</strong> recycling;Support to employment <strong>and</strong> benefits for local <strong>and</strong> regional development;Support to the development <strong>of</strong> companies <strong>and</strong> their benefit through raising <strong>of</strong>awareness on the risks for the environment, access to risk minimisation <strong>and</strong>response to the risk that has occurred.When we talk about benefits <strong>of</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> the EU legislation in the field <strong>of</strong>environmental protection the same can be shown in the form <strong>of</strong> the following Table:336
