QUALITY OF PROJECT DESIGNSem<strong>in</strong>ole <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> proposes to implement Project ACE: Accelerated andChalleng<strong>in</strong>g Education, which is designed to develop, enhance and expand advanced placementprograms <strong>in</strong> English, mathematics, and science, as well as <strong>in</strong>crease the participation rate of allstudents <strong>in</strong> AP courses, especially target<strong>in</strong>g low-<strong>in</strong>come students. As discussed, the project willbe implemented <strong>in</strong> three of the district’s high schools with the highest proportion of low-<strong>in</strong>comestudents: Crooms Academy of Information Technology (AOIT), Lyman High School andSem<strong>in</strong>ole High School. To meet the needs identified and close the gaps <strong>in</strong> achievement, theproject <strong>in</strong>tends to implement numerous activities at each of the target schools. Each activity willalign to the U.S. Department of Education’s Advanced Placement Incentive Program purpose,and s<strong>up</strong>port the project’s overall goals, objectives and outcomes.(1) Goals, Objectives and OutcomesThe aim of Project ACE is to <strong>in</strong>crease participation and success <strong>in</strong> Advanced PlacementPrograms with<strong>in</strong> the district, lead<strong>in</strong>g to enhanced student achievement and successfultransition <strong>in</strong>to post-secondary education for low-<strong>in</strong>come students. To ensure the proposedproject comprehensively improves teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> advanced placement coursework ands<strong>up</strong>ports rigorous academic standards for students, the follow<strong>in</strong>g goals, objectives, outcomes andtargets have been established:Project Narrative Page 8 of 28Page 12
