(3) Access to and Participation in Advanced Placement ProgramsAs demonstrated in the needs assessment of the target schools, access to and participation inadvanced placement programs for low-income students – specifically low-income students in thesub-groups of black and Hispanic – are of major concern to the district. As such, the proposedproject presents methods to identify qualified students and encourage enrollment of thesestudents into Advanced Placement courses.PSATPreparationCampsParentWorkshopsAP PotentialIdentificationSummer APPreparationCourseOnline andFace-to-Face APCourseOfferingsIdentification of low-income students for advanced placement coursework will continue to beconducted utilizing the College Board’s AP Potential tool; however, the project will addadditional support activities and assurances of student readiness for advanced placement. Onesuch support activity is the implementation of PSAT Preparation Camps. PSAT PreparationCamps will be offered six times each year at the target schools. Facilitated by certified teachers,the sessions will provide students with strategies for success on college placement exams. Toencourage an increase in college-readiness, these camps will focus on each test content area,provide practice tests, demonstrate time management techniques, and show students test-takingstrategies.
