In addition to the existing staff, as a result of the project, an AP Coordinator, AP Liaisonsand an Executive Secretary will be recruited to manage the project at an operational level.(3) Capacity for Annual Project Data ReportsAs described in the management plan, district personnel responsible for both the directimplementation and administrative project oversight will provide an expansive capacity forcoordinating the management and gathering of data for federal reporting requirements. Thedistrict has been awarded several competitive grants through the U.S. Department of Educationand the Florida Department of Education for student programs which cross multiple disciplinesand needs, which required high levels of data management and regular reporting. A sampling ofthese accomplishments include: Magnet Assistance Program, U.S. Department of Education,$2.1 million; Foreign Language Assistance Program, U.S. Department of Education, $443,000;and 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Florida Department of Education, $700,000.Recently the district was awarded $163,826 from the Florida DOE for its Enhancing EducationThrough Technology competitive program proposal. This one-year STEM initiative will expandand enhance the study of bioscience in one high school through intensive, ongoing professionaldevelopment. FDOE also awarded the district $987,405 for its Middle Schools Get REAL(Relevant, Engaged Authentic Learning) EETT competitive program in 2006. During the 14-month project, math and science teachers from targeted middle schools received significanttraining in project based learning and the use of technology as a teaching tool.In addition to the experience and management capacity gained by the project’s administratorsand staff, the district maintains a solid organizational capacity within financial and datamanagement functions.
