Through business partnerships with STEMM giants such as Symantec, Lockheed Martin andthe Sanford Burnham Institute, the K-20 educational partnership with Seminole State Collegeand the University of Central Florida, and economic partnerships with several local Chambers ofCommerce and STEMFlorida, the district is a principle driver in stimulating the local economyby nurturing new high-tech, high demand, and high wage jobs and careers within the community.District leaders have listened to the needs of industry in creating the quality education thatdifferentiates the county in the marketplace, places the county in a prime position to compete fornew business development, and helps distinguish the area with a high quality of life that isrecognized around the nation.Utilizing best practices from within the district in combination with innovative new strategiesimplemented as part of the APIP, the district will further its dedication to enhancing advancedstudent learning in support of the STEMM fields. As such, emphasis across the district isdirected towards providing students with an A+ education in the content areas of science,technology, engineering and mathematics. At both the elementary and secondary levels studentsare offered opportunities to enroll in academic programs of emphasis to support the acquisitionof advanced knowledge. Currently the district provides advanced placement courses within allhigh schools in the content areas of science and math. The proposed project includes theenhancement of advanced placement course offerings through the addition of online courses,specifically within the STEMM programs at the targeted high schools.The three high schools targeted have specific ties to the district’s STEMM initiative and alignwith the concept of developing a school-to-workplace pathway, each with either a school-widemagnet concentration or a program of emphasis, and advanced placement coursework to supportthese areas of focus.Project Narrative Page 12 of 28Page 16
