ELECTRONIC RESOURCES ACCESS AND CONTROLThe Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Implementation Guidel<strong>in</strong>es (Policy 5.52) provides, among other th<strong>in</strong>gs,that the use of the district network, the Internet and other electronic resources relies heavily on the proper conductof the users who must adhere to strict guidel<strong>in</strong>es. If a student user violates any of the provisions, his/her accessaccount will be term<strong>in</strong>ated and future access will be denied. In addition, appropriate discipl<strong>in</strong>ary actions will betaken which may <strong>in</strong>clude suspension, expulsion, and referral to law enforcement.1. Usagea. The use of the account must be <strong>in</strong> s<strong>up</strong>port of the educational goals and policies of SCPS.b. Use of any other network or computer resources must be consistent with the rules appropriate tothat network. This <strong>in</strong>cludes but is <strong>not</strong> limited to laws and regulations regard<strong>in</strong>g:(1) copyright material.(2) threaten<strong>in</strong>g, obscene or profane materials.(3) material protected by trade secret.2. The follow<strong>in</strong>g are prohibited:a. Use of a<strong>not</strong>her <strong>in</strong>dividual’s account or provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dividual account <strong>in</strong>formation to a<strong>not</strong>her person.b. Use of the network for f<strong>in</strong>ancial ga<strong>in</strong> or for political or commercial activity.c. The attempt to send or send<strong>in</strong>g anonymous messages of any k<strong>in</strong>d or pretend<strong>in</strong>g to be someone elsewhile send<strong>in</strong>g a message.d. The attempt or actual action to access, modify, harm, or destroy a<strong>not</strong>her user’s data on the SCPSnetwork.e. Harass<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>sult<strong>in</strong>g, or attack<strong>in</strong>g others via network communication.3. PrivilegesThe use of electronic networks is a privilege. Inappropriate use will result <strong>in</strong> cancellation of thatprivilege and referral for discipl<strong>in</strong>ary/legal action. Adm<strong>in</strong>istrators will decide if usage is appropriate andtheir decision is f<strong>in</strong>al.4. SecurityWhen you identify a security problem, <strong>not</strong>ify a teacher, media specialist, or system adm<strong>in</strong>istratorimmediately. Do <strong>not</strong> show or identify the problem to others.INVOLUNTARY TRANSFER OF STUDENTSThe S<strong>up</strong>er<strong>in</strong>tendent/S<strong>up</strong>er<strong>in</strong>tendent’s designee may <strong>in</strong>voluntarily transfer a student to a school or alternativeprogram other than the student’s zoned school when such placement is determ<strong>in</strong>ed to further the <strong>in</strong>terest of theSchool Board <strong>in</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a safe, orderly, and purposeful learn<strong>in</strong>g environment. A student who is repeatedlydisr<strong>up</strong>tive or who poses a threat to the health, safety, or welfare of others may be <strong>in</strong>voluntarily assigned to analternative program or school.The School Board may, <strong>in</strong>stead of an expulsion, assign a student to a school or an alternative program other thanthe student’s zoned school when the recommendation of expulsion is a mandatory consequence for the violationof the Student Conduct and Discipl<strong>in</strong>e Code.Students who have been suspended, expelled, or adm<strong>in</strong>istratively assigned to the district alternative school orother alternative program are prohibited from com<strong>in</strong>g on any district school campus, participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> any extracurricular event, or attend<strong>in</strong>g any event or activity sponsored by a school or the School Board for the duration oftheir suspension, expulsion or discipl<strong>in</strong>ary assignment, regardless of whether the assignment is an adm<strong>in</strong>istrativeassignment by the S<strong>up</strong>er<strong>in</strong>tendent/S<strong>up</strong>er<strong>in</strong>tendent’s designee or an assignment <strong>in</strong> lieu of expulsion by the SchoolBoard. Students who violate this prohibition shall be deemed trespassers.14Page 547
