In cases wherethe accusations are “unsubstantiated” the student’s <strong>in</strong>cident record will be flagged as such.HONOR CODEAcademic honesty and <strong>in</strong>tegrity are essential to the existence and <strong>in</strong>tegrity of an academic community. School resource officers and other law enforcementofficers have the power and authority to conduct <strong>in</strong>vestigations <strong>in</strong>dependent of those conducted by schoolpersonnel for the same <strong>in</strong>cident. Furthermore, the sanctions imposed by the school district for misconduct areseparate and dist<strong>in</strong>ct from the consequences that may be imposed follow<strong>in</strong>g the arrest and prosecution of astudent for a violation of the law orig<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g from the same <strong>in</strong>cident. School personnel will make every effort tocontact parents when a student is arrested.DEFINITIONS OF INFRACTIONS AND MISCONDUCTStudent conduct, which is considered to be a violation of the Student Conduct and Discipl<strong>in</strong>e Code is def<strong>in</strong>edand described <strong>in</strong> this section of the hand<strong>book</strong>. When a student has committed an <strong>in</strong>fraction, the misbehavior is tobe classified accord<strong>in</strong>g to the def<strong>in</strong>ition that best describes it [(S) <strong>in</strong>dicates a SESIR violation]. The sanctions tobe imposed are then to be determ<strong>in</strong>ed by referr<strong>in</strong>g to the Matrix of Infractions and Consequences.Aggression - engag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> any behavior (by word or act) as an <strong>in</strong>dividual or as a member of a gro<strong>up</strong> or crowd thatencourages, <strong>in</strong>cites, or <strong>in</strong>stigates threaten<strong>in</strong>g, aggressive, or unsafe acts, or participat<strong>in</strong>g as a member of a gro<strong>up</strong>or crowd <strong>in</strong> aggressive or unsafe acts.Alcohol Violation (S) – possession or be<strong>in</strong>g under the <strong>in</strong>fluence or use of alcoholic beverages while on a schoolcampus, a school bus, at a school or School Board sponsored function, or while at other School Board facilities.5Page 538
