3. assign the student to a<strong>not</strong>her district alternative program; or4. assign the student to a zoned school of attendance.RE-ENTRY OF EXPELLED STUDENTSUpon completion of a term of expulsion from Sem<strong>in</strong>ole <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong>, students shall be assigned to thedistrict alternative school, Journeys Academy, for a m<strong>in</strong>imum of one semester prior to return<strong>in</strong>g to his/her zonedor assigned school of attendance.Note: Students are subject to all of the policies, rules, and sanctions outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the School Board policies andthe Student Conduct and Discipl<strong>in</strong>e Code while assigned to any district alternative school placement.CORPORAL PUNISHMENTThe School Board of Sem<strong>in</strong>ole <strong>County</strong>, Florida prohibits the use of corporal punishment.CITIZENSHIP STANDARDS FOR PARTICIPATIONIN SCHOOL SPONSORED EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESSECTION 1. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSEA. IntroductionParticipation <strong>in</strong> a school sponsored extra-curricular activity or sport is a privilege. These activities are importantcomponents of our total educational program. Successful participation <strong>in</strong> school sponsored extra-curricularactivities requires a higher level of commitment, energy, and maturity.It is the goal of Sem<strong>in</strong>ole <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> to expect a higher standard of excellence from students <strong>in</strong>volved<strong>in</strong> these activities. Participat<strong>in</strong>g students are represent<strong>in</strong>g our schools <strong>in</strong> our neighborhoods, our communities, ourstate and often our nation. The standard of behavior should be one that exhibits pride, politeness, andresponsibility.Parents and students should seriously discuss the impact of the extra time, energy, and maturity required toparticipate <strong>in</strong> these activities, and the strict eligibility rules a student must follow to rema<strong>in</strong> qualified for suchactivities.B. Purpose1. To provide m<strong>in</strong>imum citizenship standards among all Sem<strong>in</strong>ole <strong>County</strong> Secondary <strong>Schools</strong> for cont<strong>in</strong>uedparticipation <strong>in</strong> school sponsored extra-curricular activities.2. To <strong>in</strong>still <strong>in</strong> each student a sense of responsibility to conduct himself/herself as a positive role model.3. To encourage the growth of good citizenship among participants <strong>in</strong> school sponsored extra-curricularactivities.4. To del<strong>in</strong>eate the sanctions that will be imposed for violation of this policy.SECTION 2. APPLICABILITYThese standards apply to all students participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> School Board approved extra-curricular activities sponsoredby the school. Furthermore, these standards apply 24 hours a day for the duration of an activity season. Anactivity season is considered to be that span of time that commences with the first gro<strong>up</strong>/team meet<strong>in</strong>g or tryouts,24Page 557
