2. Students are to stand at least five (5) feet off the roadway at all times while wait<strong>in</strong>g for the bus.3. A student's parents have responsibility for the control and direction of the student at the bus stop.4. Students must ride their assigned buses and can<strong>not</strong> board or depart the bus at any stop other than theirregular stop, unless authorized by the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal/designee.5. Students are to enter the bus <strong>in</strong> an orderly manner and sit <strong>in</strong> an assigned seat, if designated by the busdriver or by the school adm<strong>in</strong>istration.6. Students must obey the driver, monitors, and chaperones at all times and follow the posted rules ofconduct while rid<strong>in</strong>g the school bus.7. Students are to rema<strong>in</strong> seated, fac<strong>in</strong>g forward at all times when the bus is mov<strong>in</strong>g. All portions of astudent's body are to rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>side the bus. Students are required to wear seat-belts <strong>in</strong> buses equippedwith passenger restra<strong>in</strong>t systems.8. No eat<strong>in</strong>g or dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g is allowed on the bus.9. No glass or breakable conta<strong>in</strong>ers are allowed on the bus.10. No reptiles, <strong>in</strong>sects, animals, or mar<strong>in</strong>e life are allowed to be transported on the bus.11. Absolute silence is required of students at railroad cross<strong>in</strong>gs.12. Bulky or objectionable objects, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g musical <strong>in</strong>struments, that can<strong>not</strong> be held <strong>in</strong> thestudent's lap are <strong>not</strong> permitted on the bus. No objects may block the aisles or emergency exits.13. No items are to be thrown or propelled out of the bus w<strong>in</strong>dows. (Behavior that violates thisrule/expectation may be classified as a felony. The student and the parent/guardian shall be heldresponsible for any damages that result from such an act).14. No litter<strong>in</strong>g, throw<strong>in</strong>g, or propell<strong>in</strong>g of objects <strong>in</strong>side the bus is allowed.15. Defac<strong>in</strong>g or vandaliz<strong>in</strong>g a school bus is forbidden. Restitution will be required.16. No profanity, obscene language, offensive gestures, or offensive materials of any nature arepermitted on the bus.17. No posters or signs are to be displayed from the bus.18. After disembark<strong>in</strong>g, those students who must cross the road shall cross approximately twelve(12) feet <strong>in</strong> front of the stopped bus.Bus Probation: Violation of transportation policies, rules or standards of conduct committed while on the schoolbus may be grounds for plac<strong>in</strong>g a student on probationary status for an <strong>in</strong>def<strong>in</strong>ite period of time. Violation of theconditions of probation is grounds for bus suspension, or other sanctions, <strong>up</strong> to and <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, out-of-schoolsuspension and expulsion when warranted.Bus Suspension: Violation of transportation policies, rules or standards of conduct committed while on theschool bus may be grounds for the suspension of bus rid<strong>in</strong>g privileges for a period of time <strong>not</strong> to exceed ten (10)school days per occurrence. However, the consequences for such violations are <strong>not</strong> limited to the suspension ofbus rid<strong>in</strong>g privileges. Other sanctions, <strong>up</strong> to and <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, out-of-school suspension and expulsion may beimposed when warranted.Bus Expulsion: Repeated violation, or a s<strong>in</strong>gle serious violation, of transportation policies, rules or standards ofconduct committed while on the school bus may be grounds for the revocation of a student’s bus rid<strong>in</strong>gprivileges by the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal for a period of time <strong>up</strong> to the rema<strong>in</strong>der of a school year, the <strong>in</strong>terven<strong>in</strong>g summerschool, and the follow<strong>in</strong>g school year. However, the consequences for such violations are <strong>not</strong> limited torevocation of bus rid<strong>in</strong>g privileges. Other sanctions, <strong>up</strong> to and <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g out-of-school suspension and expulsionfrom school may be imposed when warranted.PARKING ON CAMPUSThe park<strong>in</strong>g of a student’s vehicle on campus is a privilege that is granted by the School Board that may be conditioned <strong>up</strong>on the purchaseof a park<strong>in</strong>g decal from the school of attendance. Students park<strong>in</strong>g vehicles on campus without authorization or who repeatedly violatecampus-park<strong>in</strong>g rules may have their park<strong>in</strong>g decal revoked and/or their vehicle towed at the owner’s expense. The presence of a vehicleon School Board property pursuant to a park<strong>in</strong>g decal is deemed to be consent by the student to a search of the vehicle. Each student whoparks a vehicle on a school campus pursuant to a park<strong>in</strong>g decal is presumed to know what is conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> his/her vehicle and will be heldaccountable for any contraband, weapons, drugs, etc., which may be found <strong>in</strong> the vehicle.Vehicles parked on School Board property (without an appropriately authorized park<strong>in</strong>g decal) by a student are subject to search if schoolpersonnel have reasonable suspicion that illegal, prohibited, harmful items or substances, or stolen property may be conta<strong>in</strong>ed there<strong>in</strong>. Eachstudent who parks a vehicle on a school campus is presumed to know what is conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> his/her vehicle and will be held accountable forany contraband, weapons, drugs, etc., which may be found <strong>in</strong> the vehicle.18Page 551
