Alcohol sale/distribution (S) – sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages while on school campus, a school bus,at a school or School Board sponsored event, or while at other School Board facilities.Arson (S) – (<strong>in</strong>tentionally sett<strong>in</strong>g a fire on/with school property) to damage or cause to be damaged, by fire orexplosion, any dwell<strong>in</strong>g, structure, or conveyance, whether occ<strong>up</strong>ied or <strong>not</strong>, or any contents there<strong>in</strong>.Assault on school employee volunteer, student, or other person lawfully on School Board property or at aSchool Board sponsored activity - mak<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>tentional, unlawful threat, by word or act to do violence to aschool employee, volunteer, student or other person lawfully on school property at a school sponsored activityco<strong>up</strong>led with an apparent ability to do so, and then do<strong>in</strong>g some act that creates a well-founded fear <strong>in</strong> the personthat violence is imm<strong>in</strong>ent.Note:Florida Statute 784.081 provides that enhanced crim<strong>in</strong>al penalties be imposed on anyone who commitsan assault aga<strong>in</strong>st a school employee.Battery (S) – (physical attack/harm) the physical use of force or violence by an <strong>in</strong>dividual aga<strong>in</strong>st a<strong>not</strong>her. (Todist<strong>in</strong>guish from fight<strong>in</strong>g, report an <strong>in</strong>cident as battery only when the force or violence is carried out aga<strong>in</strong>st aperson who is outnumbered or <strong>not</strong> engaged <strong>in</strong> mutual combat.)Battery of school employee or volunteer (S) - the un<strong>in</strong>vited hostile touch<strong>in</strong>g or strik<strong>in</strong>g of a school employee orvolunteer aga<strong>in</strong>st their will.Bomb/Biochemical Threat - <strong>in</strong>tentionally mak<strong>in</strong>g a false, verbal or written, report to any person, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>gschool personnel concern<strong>in</strong>g the placement or use of any bomb, dynamite, explosive, chemical compounds orarson caus<strong>in</strong>g devices.Note:Note:Pursuant to Florida Statute 790.162 it is a second-degree felony for a person to threaten to place ordischarge a destructive device with the <strong>in</strong>tent to do bodily harm.Pursuant to Florida Statute 790.163 it is a second-degree felony to make a false report concern<strong>in</strong>g theplacement of a bomb or destructive device.Break<strong>in</strong>g and Enter<strong>in</strong>g/Burglary (S) – (illegal entry <strong>in</strong>to a school or other district build<strong>in</strong>g) the unlawful entrywith force, or unauthorized presence <strong>in</strong> a build<strong>in</strong>g or other structure, or conveyance with evidence, or the <strong>in</strong>tent todamage or remove property or harm a person(s).Bully<strong>in</strong>g (S) – (<strong>in</strong>timidat<strong>in</strong>g or hostile behaviors) unwanted and repeated written, verbal, or physical behavior,<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g any threaten<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>sult<strong>in</strong>g, or dehumaniz<strong>in</strong>g acts, by an adult or student that are severe or pervasiveenough to create an <strong>in</strong>timidat<strong>in</strong>g, hostile or offensive educational environment, to cause discomfort orhumiliation, or unreasonably <strong>in</strong>terfere with the <strong>in</strong>dividual’s school performance or participation (refer tobully<strong>in</strong>g/harassment policy).Cheat<strong>in</strong>g - the possession of <strong>in</strong>appropriate or deliberate distribution or use of <strong>in</strong>formation, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, but <strong>not</strong>limited to: computer files or folders, electronic devices or oral or written <strong>not</strong>es, materials, or work of a<strong>not</strong>herperson <strong>in</strong> the completion of an academic exam, test, or assignment (refer to Honor Code).Classroom Disr<strong>up</strong>tion – engag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> conduct that <strong>in</strong>terferes with the process of teach<strong>in</strong>g or learn<strong>in</strong>g.Confrontation - engag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> behavior that provokes, promotes, or encourages hostility or disr<strong>up</strong>tion.Contraband - the possession or storage of items which are prohibited at school, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, but <strong>not</strong> limited to:ammunition clips, bullets or cartridges, flammable liquids, combustible materials, poisonous substances,matches, lighters, firecrackers, bottle rockets, smoke bombs, or other similar devices, and laser po<strong>in</strong>ters or lightpens.Disrespect – the use of words or acts that demean, degrade, antagonize, or humiliate a person or gro<strong>up</strong> ofpersons.6Page 539
