Introduction<br />

Note: CMS messages with a severity of “S” for Severe or “T” for Terminating are<br />

displayed as if the <strong>CP</strong> EMSG setting was ON, regardless of what <strong>CP</strong> SET<br />

EMSG setting is in effect at the time. For more information about message<br />

severity codes, refer to Table 1 on page 2. For a description of<br />

xxxmmm####s format, refer to “z/<strong>VM</strong> Message Format” on page 1.<br />

When you log onto z/<strong>VM</strong>, the initial setting for the display of messages is<br />

installation dependent. Use the <strong>CP</strong> QUERY SET comm<strong>and</strong> to determine the current<br />

EMSG setting.<br />

Use the message number to refer to the appropriate messages section of this book<br />

for a description of the message.<br />

Note that in some cases, the text of a message is longer than a line on the display<br />

screen. The message text may be divided in the middle of a word <strong>and</strong> continued on<br />

the next line.<br />
