HAS BEEN EXCEEDED<br />

Explanation: An error occurred at the tape drive<br />

because the block of data being read or written was<br />

larger than the maximum size allowed by the control<br />

unit.<br />

<strong>System</strong> Action: The operation writing data to the tape<br />

is terminated. <strong>System</strong> operation continues.<br />

User Response: The data should be re-written using<br />

a smaller block size.<br />

H<strong>CP</strong>2238E type rdev A CHANNEL INTERFACE<br />

ERROR HAS OCCURRED<br />

Explanation: An error occurred at the channel, <strong>and</strong><br />

the channel was not able to retry the operation.<br />

<strong>System</strong> Action: <strong>System</strong> operation continues.<br />

User Response: Examine the outboard record (OBR)<br />

within logrec for specific hardware error conditions, <strong>and</strong><br />

contact your <strong>IBM</strong> support center personnel to diagnose<br />

DATA WAS ENCOUNTERED<br />

Explanation: An operation was terminated because it<br />

attempted to read past the end-of-data marker on a<br />

tape. The end-of-data marker marks the end of the<br />

validly written data on the tape. This error normally<br />

indicates that the tape was not closed properly during<br />

its last session.<br />

This message is displayed in conjunction with other<br />

messages that provide information about channel<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> words, sense, user ID, <strong>and</strong> other variables<br />

when necessary.<br />

<strong>System</strong> Action: <strong>System</strong> operation continues.<br />

User Response: Rewind the tape <strong>and</strong> retry the<br />

operation. If the problem persists, contact your system<br />

support personnel.<br />

Explanation: The channel has detected a device-level<br />

error <strong>and</strong> cannot present status for the current<br />

operation, or there is no current operation.<br />

<strong>System</strong> Action: The operation is terminated, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

system logs a permanent error.<br />

User Response: Examine the outboard record (OBR)<br />

within logrec for specific hardware error conditions, <strong>and</strong><br />

contact your <strong>IBM</strong> support center personnel to diagnose<br />

<strong>and</strong> correct the hardware error.
