50. Bond by Richard Gruhanie called " llutsclumeis Reche," that forasmuch as<br />

Sir John Johnstone of Duuskellie, knight, warden of the west marches,<br />

has imprisoned him in the tower of Torthorald, and he can have no<br />

liberty without this bond, he therefore obliges himself to remain a<br />

prisoner until specially liberated by the warden ; and if he desires to be<br />

no longer under promise, he will, before giving up the bond, re-enter him-<br />

self in the tower. Subscribed at Torthorald, 10th August loS-l, 47<br />

51. Assurance by John [Maxwell], Earl of Moiton, that John Johnstone, culled<br />

Greenhill, John Scot, Richard Latimer, and nineteen others named, now<br />

ill the castle of Lochmabeu, should be unhurt and unmolested by him or<br />

his friends in bodies, lands, or goods for any quavrell between the parties,<br />

they on their part doing nothing prejudicial to the earl and his friends.<br />

escheat of the lease of the teindsheaves of the parish of Lochmabeu of all<br />

I goods, profits, etc., of lands in the bounds of Annaudale, Eskdale, Ewes-<br />

dale and Wauchopedale, with the escheat of the lauds of Carlaverock and<br />

the lease of the teiuJsheaves of the town and parish of Dumfries, which<br />

belonged to John, Earl of Morton, Lord Maxwell, uow belonging to the<br />

king by reason of escheat, the carl being declared rebel for non-entry of<br />

certain Armstrongs, and also for taking arms against his majesty's<br />

lieutenants, witli power to intromit witii the said goods, etc. Subscribed<br />
