Crown of Scotland, to Adam of Carlyle. About th.' same date he received land in Warm.inliy and in Annan,
resigned in his favour under the designation of Gilbert, son of John, by Bunegul, son of Udard. He still held
the s;une designation in an agreement dated llth Noveudier 1-218. In later writs he is styled ''Gilbert rie
Jonistuu " and " Sir Gilbert de Jonestun," circa 1230, wlien he held Ihe rank of knighthood. H.\M JOHNSTONE of JoiiN-sTON'r, who w.as laird of Johnstone before M13, when he received a safe-conduct
