robudy or rolmoody, and Hardgray, and others, with the oflice of " eorunaloi "<br />

^^illlin the bounds of Armaudale. Sasine was given at the manor-[ilace of<br />

Johnstone, commonly called the l.ochwood.^<br />

After tliis little is recorded of the owner of Johnstoue, except in connec-<br />

tion with the government of )iis district. The heads of tl e border clan of<br />

Elliot, ^loherl Elliot of Picidheuch, ^Martin Elliot of Braidlie, and others,<br />

in Uecemher 1572, entered into a Loud with him to restore to his<br />

custody when rec[uircd one of their number, John Elliot "of the Steill,"<br />

who had been taken prisoner by Johnstone. IIe_ was then staying at<br />
