7 Maintenance and Care
– Pull the screw-on cover with filter element out of the filter housing a little and let the
fuel drain off.
– Take off the screw-on cover including filter element.
– Remove the filter element by lateral pressure on the lower edge.
At all events, ensure that no foreign bodies enter the filter housing. Do not, under any
circumstances, wipe off the inside of the filter housing. It is absolutely essential to avoid
any water penetrating the filter housing.
– Renew the gasket of the fine fuel filter (grease it lightly).
– Fit the new filter element into the screw-on cover.
– Screw the screw-on cover with filter element onto the filter bowl and firmly tighten it
to a tightening torque of 25 Nm .
– Swivel the lever of the 3-way cock (2) to the front (this shuts off drainage from the
filter bowl).
– Open the fuel connection to the intermediate tank. In order to do this, swivel the
longer (upper) servicing lever (4) on the valve manifold, fuel supply (5) by 45°
downward (horizontal position).
– Call up submenu "Special Functions" on the color terminal.
– In row "Service Fuel Filter", choose option "ON". This switches on the electrical
pump on the fuel prefilter and bleeds the fuel system.
The current fuel pressure in millibars (mbar) is displayed on the color terminal.
The fuel pressure increases for a while and then remains constant at around
1000 mbar. This means that the fuel system has been bled.
– Start the diesel engine and, as soon as the diesel engine is running, set the option to
"OFF" in row "Service Fuel Filter".
– Then: Check the fine fuel filter for leaks (visual inspection).
