7 Maintenance and Care
During each service on the diesel engine, the following work must also be carefully
performed in compliance with the Mercedes-Benz maintenance regulations (see
maintenance booklet for the engine):
– Check for leas and check the condition of all lines and hoses on the engine.
– Check the intake line between the air filter and engine and the lines for the cooling
and heating system for condition and leaks.
– Check all lines and hoses for undamaged condition as well as freedom from chafing
and proper routing and fastening.
– Check all hose clips, flanged connections and air intake manifolds for firm
connection.
Checking respectively adjusting of valve clearance is required after the first 400
operating hours and then once annually respectively every 1200 operating hours.
This work may only be performed by persons expressly authorized for this work by
Mercedes-Benz. The work sequence is described in the Mercedes-BenzMaintenance
Manual.
Valve clearance for cold engine:
– nlet valves 0.40 mm
– Outlet valves 0.60 mm
