7.1.3.5 Other maintenance work on the diesel engine<br />

7 Maintenance and Care<br />

During each service on the diesel engine, the following work must also be carefully<br />

performed in compliance with the Mercedes-Benz maintenance regulations (see<br />

maintenance booklet for the engine):<br />

– Check for leas and check the condition of all lines and hoses on the engine.<br />

– Check the intake line between the air filter and engine and the lines for the cooling<br />

and heating system for condition and leaks.<br />

– Check all lines and hoses for undamaged condition as well as freedom from chafing<br />

and proper routing and fastening.<br />

– Check all hose clips, flanged connections and air intake manifolds for firm<br />

connection.<br />

Checking respectively adjusting of valve clearance is required after the first 400<br />

operating hours and then once annually respectively every 1200 operating hours.<br />

This work may only be performed by persons expressly authorized for this work by<br />

Mercedes-Benz. The work sequence is described in the Mercedes-BenzMaintenance<br />

<strong>Manual</strong>.<br />

Valve clearance for cold engine:<br />

– nlet valves 0.40 mm<br />

– Outlet valves 0.60 mm<br />
