8.14 Manual release of the parking brake
373
8 Troubleshooting
Sufficient pressure must be available in the compressed air system to release the
parking brake. In an emergency, the parking brake may even be released if there is
insufficient pressure for the braking system. For this purpose, the spring-loaded cylinder
must be released manually.
This may be done only if the diesel engine and traction drive are fully functional and at
least a partial braking action can be generated with the traction drive.
Danger! Risk of lethal injury owing to the machine moving off of its own accord. Before
releasing the spring-loaded cylinder, the machine must be secured against moving off of
its own accord using both chock. Work on the vehicle brakes may only be performed by
specialist personnel with corresponding training (for instance, motor vehicle mechanics,
agricultural machinery mechanics, brake service, etc.) in compliance with the applicable
safety regulations.
(4) Release screw
Releasing the spring-loaded cylinder:
– Shut off the engine and secure it against inadvertent starting.
– Secure the vehicle against rolling away using the two wedges.
– Using a box wrench SW24, turn the emergency release bolt (4)(hexagonal bolt at
the center of the cylinder) counter-clockwise adequately (maximum torque 35 Nm,
travel approx. 70 mm) until a fixed stop can be felt.
– The spring-loaded cylinders are released, the vehicle is completely unbraked.
– The vehicle may, in compliance with the corresponding safety regulations and
securing measures, be towed to the nearest safe parking location.
Danger! Never park the vehicle unsecured when the spring-loaded cylinders are
released. Secure the vehicle against rolling away using chocks of sufficient size. In the
field of view of the driver, affix a conspicuous sign bearing the text: "Danger! Vehicle
brakes do not work! Spring-loaded cylinders are released". Keep the ignition key in a
secure place.
