366 8 Troubleshooting Charging the battery/jump-starting The positive poles of the batteries must always be disconnected to charge the batteries. Sequence when disconnecting the battery: Always disconnect the negative pole (ground cable) first and then the positive pole. Switch off the main battery switch. Only normal battery charging devices may be used for charging the battery. Quick charge devices are expressly prohibited! The charging current may at max. amount to one tenth of the nominal capacity of the battery. II䔠 II䔠 4V+ 0 4V+ 0 0 0 0 0 04V+ Since damage has been incurred several times in the past due to improper charging of the battery or jump-starting, we expressly want to point out that euro-Maus4 may only be jump-started using the following method: Attention! Risk of injury. Always follow the safety information of the battery manufacturer when handling acid batteries. Chapter 8 Troubleshooting
Jump-starting 367 8 Troubleshooting – Only use standardized jump-starting cables with really adequate cross-section of the electrical conductors. – Only use batteries with the same nominal voltage (24 V). – Make sure of sufficient battery capacity of the assisting vehicle. – Shut off the engines of both vehicles and switch off the ignition. – Switch off the main battery switch on euro-Maus4; comply with a waiting time of 6 minutes. Then check whether the main battery switch has really opened (light in the engine housing may no longer be lit). – Make sure that the two vehicles do not touch at any point. – First connect the negative pole of the battery of the assisting vehicle to the negative pole of the battery of euro-Maus4. Alternatively, a bare-metal and electrically conductive point (e.g. ground strap of engine block) of the assisting vehicle may also be used with a similar point (ground strap) of the euro-Maus4 to be started. – Connect the positive pole of the battery of the assisting vehicle to the positive pole of the battery of euro-Maus4. – Switch on the main battery switch of euro-Maus4. – Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and accelerate this engine to a moderate speed. – Start the engine of euro-Maus4 and ensure that any attempt at starting does not last longer than 15 seconds. – Before removing the jump start cable, in any case shut off the engine of the assisting vehicle, because otherwise the electronic system of the assisting vehicle may be damaged. – Remove the jump start cable from both vehicles in reverse order (first remove the positive cable, then the negative cable).
