the podium, there is a stunned silence in the Great Hall. At length, a slip of paper is
passed, hand-to-hand-to-hand, up to the podium. Khrushchev reads: “Where were
you when all this was going on?” Khrushchev turns purple with rage, slams his fist
down on the podium, and roars: “Who wrote this note?!” Dead silence in the Great
Hall, you could hear a pin drop. Khrushchev says quietly: “at’s where I was.”
