Saving a document in a different file format<br />

To save the active document in a different file format, invoke the command File ><br />

Save as and open the dropdown list Save as Type. Choose the desired format,<br />

enter a new filename if desired, and confirm by clicking on OK.<br />

Opening a document stored in a different file format<br />

To open a document stored in a different file format, invoke the command File ><br />

Open, open the Files of type list, and select the format of the file to be opened.<br />

Then select the file and confirm with OK.<br />

Supported file formats<br />

The list of available file types in Open and Save dialogs offers (among others) the<br />

following file formats:<br />

Document<br />

The native file format and default for TextMaker documents. This is the format<br />

in which you will typically save your documents. Compatible with TextMaker<br />

2010 and 2012.<br />

Template<br />

Document template for TextMaker documents (see section “Document templates”<br />

beginning on page 137)<br />

Microsoft Word<br />

You can also open and save documents in Microsoft Word file format. Supports<br />

Word 6.0 through 2003 (.doc files) as well as Word 2007 through 2010 (.docx<br />

files).<br />

FreeOffice: In <strong>SoftMaker</strong> FreeOffice, .docx files can only be opened. Saving<br />

files in .docx format is not possible.<br />

OpenDocument Text<br />

Text documents in OpenDocument Text format can be opened and saved as<br />

well, providing compatibility with applications like OpenOffice.org Writer.<br />
