Saving a document in a different file format To save the active document in a different file format, invoke the command File > Save as and open the dropdown list Save as Type. Choose the desired format, enter a new filename if desired, and confirm by clicking on OK. Opening a document stored in a different file format To open a document stored in a different file format, invoke the command File > Open, open the Files of type list, and select the format of the file to be opened. Then select the file and confirm with OK. Supported file formats The list of available file types in Open and Save dialogs offers (among others) the following file formats: Document The native file format and default for TextMaker documents. This is the format in which you will typically save your documents. Compatible with TextMaker 2010 and 2012. Template Document template for TextMaker documents (see section “Document templates” beginning on page 137) Microsoft Word You can also open and save documents in Microsoft Word file format. Saving files in .docx format is not possible. OpenOffice.org 1.x Text (import only) Opens a document in OpenOffice.org 1.x Text format. (Saving in this format is not possible.) TextMaker 2008 Saves a document in the file format of the previous version TextMaker 2008. Rich Text Format The RTF format is very suitable for document exchange. It supports all basic kinds of formatting and can be read by many other programs. HTML HTML format, for Internet documents (see chapter “Internet functions” beginning on page 441) TextMaker/DOS (import only) Opens a document that was created with TextMaker for DOS, version 3.0 or higher. (Saving in this format is not possible.) Text file Plain text file Text file with additional options Same as above. However, opens an additional dialog where you can specify the character set before the file is opened/saved. See the section “Working with text files” below for details. Working with text files As described in the previous section, you can also open and save plain text files with TextMaker.
