In such cases, append one ofthe following ATC instructions as appropriate:1. HOLD SHORT OF RUNWAY, or2. HOLD IN POSITION.i. USAF/USN. When issuing additional instructionsor information to an aircraft holding in takeoffposition, include instructions to continue holding ortaxi off the runway, unless it is cleared for takeoff.PHRASEOLOGY−CONTINUE HOLDING,4. When either is a Category III aircraft−6,000 feet.5. ANTICIPATING SEPARATIONTakeoff clearance needs not be <strong>with</strong>held untilprescribed separation exists if there is a reasonableassurance it will exist when the aircraft starts takeoffroll.3−9−6. SAME RUNWAY SEPARATIONSeparate a departing aircraft from a precedingdeparting or arriving aircraft using the same runwayby ensuring that it does not begin takeoff roll until:a. The other aircraft has departed and crossed therunway end or turned to avert any conflict. (SeeFIG 3−9−1.) If you can determine distances byreference to suitable landmarks, the other aircraftneeds only be airborne if the following minimumdistance exists between aircraft: (See FIG 3−9−2.)1. When only Category I aircraft are involved−3,000 feet.2. When a Category I aircraft is preceded by aCategory II aircraft− 3,000 feet.3.
