2/19/04<strong>7110.65P</strong>Section 9. Class B Service Area− Terminal7−9−1. APPLICATIONApply Class B services and procedures <strong>with</strong>in thedesignated Class B airspace.a. No person may operate an aircraft <strong>with</strong>inClass B airspace unless:1. The aircraft has an operable two-way radiocapable of communications <strong>with</strong> ATC on appropriatefrequencies for that Class B airspace.2. The aircraft is equipped <strong>with</strong> the applicableoperating transponder and automatic altitude reportingequipment specified in para (a) of 14 CFRSection 91.215, except as provided in para (d) of thatsection.7−9−2. VFR AIRCRAFT IN CLASS B AIRSPACEa. VFR aircraft must obtain an ATC clearance tooperate in Class B airspace.REFERENCE−FAAO 7110.65, Operational Requests, Para 2−1−18.FAAO 7110.65, <strong>Air</strong>space Classes, Para 2−4−22.PHRASEOLOGY−CLEARED THROUGH/TO ENTER/OUT OF BRAVOAIRSPACE,and as appropriate,VIA (route). MAINTAIN (altitude) WHILE IN BRAVOAIRSPACE.orCLEARED AS REQUESTED.(Additional instructions, as necessary.)REMAIN OUTSIDE BRAVO AIRSPACE. (Whennecessary, reason and/or additional instructions.)NOTE−1. Assignment of radar headings, routes, or altitudes isbased on the provision that a pilot operating in accordance<strong>with</strong> VFR is expected to advise ATC if compliance willcause violation of any part of the CFR.2. Separation and sequencing for VFR aircraft isdependent upon radar. Efforts should be made to segregateVFR traffic from IFR traffic flows when a radar outageoccurs.b. Approve/deny requests from VFR aircraft tooperate in Class B airspace based on workload,operational limitations and traffic conditions.c. Inform the pilot when to expect furtherclearance when VFR aircraft are held either inside oroutside Class B airspace.d. Inform VFR aircraft when leaving Class Bairspace.PHRASEOLOGY−LEAVING (name) BRAVO AIRSPACE,and as appropriate,RESUME OWN NAVIGATION, REMAIN THISFREQUENCY FOR TRAFFIC ADVISORIES, RADARSERVICE TERMINATED, SQUAWK ONE TWO ZEROZERO.7−9−3. METHODSa. To the extent practical, clear large turbineengine-powered airplanes to/from the primary airportusing altitudes and routes that avoid VFR corridorsand airspace below the Class B airspace floor whereVFR aircraft are operating.NOTE−Pilots operating in accordance <strong>with</strong> VFR are expected toadvise ATC if compliance <strong>with</strong> assigned altitudes,headings, or routes will cause violation of any part of theCFR.b. Vector aircraft to remain in Class B airspaceafter entry. Inform the aircraft when leaving andreentering Class B airspace if it becomes necessary toextend the flight path outside Class B airspace forspacing.NOTE−14 CFR Section 91.131 states that “Unless otherwiseauthorized by ATC, each person operating a large turbineengine-powered airplane to or from a primary airport forwhich a Class B airspace area is designated must operateat or above the designated floors of the Class B airspacearea while <strong>with</strong>in the lateral limits of that area.” Suchauthorization should be the exception rather than the rule.REFERENCE−FAAO 7110.65, Deviation Advisories, Para 5−1−10.c. <strong>Air</strong>craft departing controlled airports <strong>with</strong>inClass B airspace will be provided the same servicesas those aircraft departing the primary airport.Class B Service Area− Terminal7−9−1
