7110.65P CHG 1 8/5/046. Trial Probe. The controller can utilize trialprobe to assess whether there are any potentialconflicts with a proposed clearance or whenperforming manual coordination.NOTE−Once initiated, trial probe does not take into account anychanges made to the proposed profile or to any other flightprofile in the system. It is an assessment by conflict probeof the current situation at the time the controller enters thetrial probe. A trial probe does not alleviate the controllerfrom performing a conflict probe when issuing a clearanceor accepting a transfer.7. System Unable to Perform Conflict Probe fora Specific Aircraft.(a) If a flight’s profile becomes corrupted, conflict probe may not be able to correctly monitorseparation for that flight. Take the necessary steps tocorrect an aircraft’s flight plan when conflict probecould not be performed.(b) In addition, after verifying flight plan dataaccuracy, utilize other decision support tools toestablish and maintain the appropriate separationminima until such time that conflict probe can beutilized.8. Conflict Probe Limitations.(a) Conflict Probe does not support thefollowing separation minima:paths.(1) Subpara 8−4−2a2 − Nonintersecting(2) Subpara 8−4−2d − Intersecting flightpaths with variable width protected airspace.(3) Subpara 8−4−3a − Reduction of RouteProtected Airspace, below FL 240.(4) Subpara 8−4−3b − Reduction of RouteProtected Airspace, at and above FL 240.(5) Subpara 8−4−4a1 − Same NAVAID:VOR/VORTAC/TACAN.NDB.(6) Subpara 8−4−4a2 − Same NAVAID:(7) Subpara 8−4−4c − Dead Reckoning.(8) Para 8−5−4 − Same Direction.(9) Para 8−6−3 − Temporary MovingAirspace Reservations.(10) Para 8−8−5 − VFR Climb and Descent.(11) ZAN waiver 97−0−036 (30/40 DME).b. Additional Decision Support Tools: Thesesupport tools include: range/bearing, time of passing, intercept angle, the aircraft situation display (ASD)and electronic flight data.1. The results provided by these additionaldecision support/controller tools can be used by thecontroller for maintaining situational awareness andmonitoring flight profile information, and forestablishing and maintaining separation standardsnot supported by probe, or when probe is unavailable.2. Under no circumstances shall the controllerutilize any of the additional decision support tools tooverride probe results when the applicable separationstandard is supported by probe and none of the otherconditions for overriding probe apply.13−2−3. INFORMATION MANAGEMENTa. Currency of Information: The sector team isresponsible for ensuring that manually entered data isaccurate and timely. Ensure that nonconformantmessages are handled in a timely manner and that theflight’s profile is updated as necessary.NOTE−Conflict probe accuracy requires timely updates of dataused to model each flight’s trajectory. If this data is notcurrent, the aircraft flight profile and probe results may bemisleading.b. Data Block Management.1. Ensure that the data block reflects the mostcurrent flight information and controller appliedindicators as specified in facility directives.2. Ensure that appropriate and timely action istaken when a special condition code is indicated in thedata block.c. Electronic Flight Strip Management.1. Electronic flight strips shall be maintained inaccordance with facility directives and the following:(a) Annotations. Ensure that annotations arekept up to date.(b) Reduced Separation Flags. Ensure theflags listed below are selected appropriately for eachflight:(1) M− Mach Number Technique (MNT).(2) R− Reduced MNT.13−2−2Ocean21 − Oceanic
