APPLICATIONEach TPX−42 facility shall utilize the equipment tothe maximum extent possible consistent <strong>with</strong> localoperating conditions.5−16−2. RESPONSIBILITYThis equipment does not relieve the controller of theresponsibility to ensure proper identification, maintenanceof identity, handoff of the correct radar beacontarget associated <strong>with</strong> numeric data, and theseparation of aircraft.5−16−3. FUNCTIONAL USETPX−42 may be used for the following functions:a. Tagging.b. Altitude information.REFERENCE−FAAO 7110.65, Altitude Filters, Para 5−2−23.c. Coordination.d. Target identity confirmation.5−16−4. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSUse the TPX−42 system as follows:a. TPX−42 facilities shall inform adjacent facilitiesof scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns.b. To the maximum extent practicable, tags shouldbe utilized for all controlled aircraft.5−16−5. INFORMATION DISPLAYEDa. Inhibiting portions of the tag shall be inaccordance <strong>with</strong> facility directives, which shallensure maximum required use of the equipment.b. Mode C altitude information shall not beinhibited unless a ground malfunction causesrepeated discrepancies of 300 feet or more betweenthe automatic altitude readouts and pilot reportedaltitudes.5−16−6. INHIBITING LOW ALTITUDE ALERTSYSTEM (LAAS)Assign a beacon code to a VFR aircraft or to anaircraft that has canceled its IFR flight plan to inhibitLAAS processing unless the aircraft has specificallyrequested LAAS.TPX−42− Terminal5−16−1
