BACKGROUND: This change adds Man−Portable <strong>Air</strong> Defense Systems (MANPADS) alerts to allowable ATIScontent.3. CHANGE:OLD2−9−3. CONTENTInclude the following in ATIS broadcast as appropriate:a. <strong>Air</strong>port/facility name, phonetic letter code, time ofweather sequence (UTC). Weather informationconsisting of wind direction and velocity, visibility,obstructions to vision, present weather, sky condition,temperature, dew point, altimeter, a density altitudeadvisory when appropriate and other pertinent remarksincluded in the official weather observation. Winddirection, velocity, and altimeter shall be reported fromcertified direct reading instruments. Temperature anddew point should be reported from certified directreading sensors when available. Always include weatherobservation remarks of lightning, cumulonimbus, andtowering cumulus clouds.NOTE−ASOS/AWOS is to be considered the primary source ofwind direction, velocity, and altimeter data for weatherobservation purposes at those locations that are soequipped. The ASOS Operator Interface Device (OID)displays the magnetic wind as “MAG WND” in theauxiliary data location in the lower left−hand portion ofthe screen.
