APPLICATIONProvide air traffic control services in the CaribbeanICAO Region with the procedures and minimacontained in this section except when notedotherwise.8−8−2. VERTICAL SEPARATIONProvide vertical separation in accordance withChapter 4, IFR, Section 5, Altitude Assignment andVerification.8−8−3. LONGITUDINAL SEPARATIONProvide longitudinal separation between aircraft asfollows:a. Supersonic flight:1. 10 minutes provided both aircraft are in levelflight at the same Mach number or the aircraft are ofthe same type and are both operating in cruise climb, and one of the following;(a) Both aircraft have reported over acommon point; or,(b) If both aircraft have not reported over acommon point, the appropriate time interval beingapplied between aircraft exists and will exist at thecommon point; or,(c) If a common point does not exist, theappropriate time interval being applied betweenaircraft exists and will exist at significant points alongeach track.2. 15 minutes between all other aircraft.b. Turbojet operations above FL 200 in the MiamiOceanic, Houston Oceanic and San Juan CTAs/FIRsand all altitudes in the West Atlantic Route System(WATRS) and New York Oceanic CTA/FIR(subsonic flight):1. Apply the prescribed minima in accordancewith para 8−3−3, Mach Number Technique; or2. In the New York CTA/FIR, where tracksdiverge from the common point and the followingaircraft is maintaining a greater Mach number thanthe preceding aircraft:(a) At least 10 minutes longitudinal separationexists at the point where the tracks diverge; and(b) At least 5 minutes longitudinal separationwill exist where minimum lateral separation isachieved (whichever is estimated to occur first);(1) At or before the next significant point(normally within ten degrees of longitude alongtrack(s)), or(2) Within 90 minutes of the time thefollowing aircraft passes the common point, or(3) Within 600 NM of the common point; or3. Apply 15 minutes between all other turbojetaircraft.c. Turbojet operations below FL 200 (subsonicflight):Apply 20 minutes between turbojet aircraft operatingbelow FL 200 in the San Juan Oceanic (outside theWATRS area), Miami Oceanic and Houston OceanicCTAs/FIRs.d. Nonturbojet operations.1. Apply 20 minutes between aircraft operatingin the WATRS; or2. Apply 20 minutes between aircraft operatingbelow FL 200 in the Miami Oceanic, HoustonOceanic and San Juan CTAs/FIRs; or3. Apply 30 minutes between aircraft operatingoutside of the WATRS in the New York CTA/FIR.NOTE−The WATRS area is defined as beginning at a point2700’N/7700’W direct to 2000’N/6700’W direct to1800’N/6200’W direct to 1800’N/6000’W direct to3830’N/6000’W direct to 3830’N/6915’W, thencecounterclockwise along the New York Oceanic CTA/FIRboundary to the Miami Oceanic CTA/FIR boundary, thence southbound along the Miami Oceanic CTA/FIRboundary to the point of beginning.Caribbean ICAO Region8−8−1
