User account controlStarting a Java GUI sessionover your node name to be able to back up <strong>and</strong> restore files on yoursystem, specify the revokeremoteaccess option in your client options file.Client access authority only allows Tivoli Storage Manager administratorsto back up <strong>and</strong> restore files on remote systems. They do not have physicalaccess to the data. That is, they cannot restore the data belonging to theremote system to their own systems. To restore data belonging to a remotesystem to your own system, you must possess at least client ownerauthority.To determine what authority you have, you can use either of the followingmethods:vFrom the main Tivoli Storage Manager GUI window, select File → ConnectionInformation.v Use the Tivoli Storage Manager server QUERY ADMIN comm<strong>and</strong> from theadministrative comm<strong>and</strong>-line client. See the appropriate Tivoli Storage ManagerAdministrator's Reference for more information about the QUERY ADMINcomm<strong>and</strong>.Related reference“Revokeremoteaccess” on page 447Starting with Microsoft Windows Vista <strong>and</strong> Windows 2008, the securityarchitecture was updated with a new User Account Control (UAC) component.The UAC component changes how user accounts are configured <strong>and</strong> used, <strong>and</strong>how applications use system-level privileges.As a result, when you start a Tivoli Storage Manager client on those operatingsystems, the Windows Security dialog box is displayed. Depending on how youlogged on, the form of the dialog might differ:vvMembers of the Administrators group are prompted for confirmation to start theTivoli Storage Manager client.Members of the Backup Operators group are prompted to provide the passwordfor a Backup Operators group account or for an administrator account.In addition, members of the Backup Operators group must have the followingaccess privileges to the Tivoli Storage Manager client root directory:v Modifyv Read <strong>and</strong> Executev List Folder Contentsv Readv WriteThis section explains the different methods to start a GUI session.Start a GUI session using one of the following methods:v Click the Windows Start button <strong>and</strong> select Programs → Tivoli Storage Manager →Backup Archive GUI.v Click the Windows Start button <strong>and</strong> select Run, then enter the full path to thebackup client executable file (dsm.exe).Chapter 3.
