Frequently asked questionsThis section contains some frequently asked questions <strong>and</strong> answers about usingcluster services.Q: How do you configure a shortcut for the Tivoli Storage Managerbackup-archive client GUI in a cluster environment?A: To configure a Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client GUI icon (forexample on the Windows desktop) that you can use to manage operations for acluster resource group on a Windows cluster, perform the following steps:1. Right-click on the desktop <strong>and</strong> select New → Shortcut.2. In the window that appears, find the path to the dsm.exe executable (locatedby default in directory C:\program files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\). If you typethe path in, instead of using the Browse button, the path should be enclosed indouble quotation marks. For example: "C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\dsm.exe"3. After you enter the path <strong>and</strong> executable in the text field, add the followinginformation after the closing double quotation marks (add a space between thedouble quotation marks <strong>and</strong> the following): -optfile="x:\path\to\cluster\dsm.opt". This identifies the proper Tivoli Storage Manager cluster options fileyou want to use. This example assumes that the cluster options file is located inthe folder "x:\path\to\cluster\" <strong>and</strong> has a filename dsm.opt.4. The complete line in the text field now should look similar to the following:"C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\dsm.exe" -optfile="x:\path\to\cluster\ dsm.opt".5. Click Next <strong>and</strong> give this shortcut a meaningful name, such as Backup-ArchiveGUI: Cluster Group X.6. Click Finish. A desktop icon should now be available. Carefully entering thecomm<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> recording important information about the cluster setup canminimize setup time. To successfully set up a scheduler service for Microsoftcluster environments:1. Carefully read the information in this appendix for correct syntax on setting upa scheduler service for a cluster group.2. Ensure that the proper dsm.opt file(s) are used for the cluster. In a typicalnormal workstation, only one dsm.opt file is used. In a clustered environment,additional dsm.opt files are required. Each cluster group that is backed up musthave its own dsm.opt file. A cluster group is any group listed under theGROUPS folder of the cluster tree within the Microsoft Cluster Administratorutility or VCS Configuration Editor.3.
