||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||Creating an Automated System Recovery diskette (WindowsXP <strong>and</strong> Windows Server 2003)To recover your Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 system using ASR(Automated System Recovery), you must create an Automated System Recoverydiskette.Create a recovery diskette any time there is a hardware configuration change orservice pack update to your workstation.Always create an ASR diskette after you back up ASR files. Store the ASR diskettein a safe location for future use.You can also create the ASR diskette for another Tivoli Storage Manager clientnode if you know the password for the other node, <strong>and</strong> if the ASR files on theother node were backed up to a Tivoli Storage Manager server. To create thediskette for another node with the client GUI, set the virtualnodename option inyour client options file (dsm.opt) to the node name of the workstation for whichyou are creating the ASR diskette prior to creating the ASR diskette. If you use theclient comm<strong>and</strong> line interface, specify the other node name with thevirtualnodename option like this: dsmc restore asr a:\-virtualnodename=dagordon1. Back up the ASR files by typing the following comm<strong>and</strong>: dsmc backup asr. TheWindows Automated System Recovery window is displayed by the WindowsAPI that creates the ASR files. ASR data is generated on your computer <strong>and</strong>backed up to the Tivoli Storage Manager server.2. Copy the ASR files to the ASR disketteClient comm<strong>and</strong> line interfacea. Insert a blank, formatted diskette into the drive (assumed to bedrive A for this example), then issue the following TSM comm<strong>and</strong>:dsmc restore asr a:\b. Use the Windows label comm<strong>and</strong> to make the diskette labelTSMASR. The volume label for the diskette must be TSMASR forrecovery to succeed. For example: label a: TSMASRclient GUIa. Select Utilities → Create ASR Diskette from the GUI main window.The Create Automated System Recovery Diskette window appears.b. Specify the diskette drive for creating the ASR diskette, insert adiskette into the drive, <strong>and</strong> click Finish.Tivoli Storage Manager copies the required ASR files to the diskette<strong>and</strong> labels the diskette volume TSMASR. If you forget to back upthe ASR files prior to creating the diskette, the following error isshown:No ASR filespace was found on server. Make sure you havebacked up ASR prior to performing this operation.3.
